Alone in our house for the first time this week, I make my way to the bathroom where I slowly took off my clothes and stared at my body for a few minutes in the mirror. I take it all in, noticing my collarbones sticking out first, and then my breasts that have seemed to shrunk in size, and finally my belly that seems to always be the most prominent part of my body, my hips a close second. My fingers start to wander around my womb space, sensing the curves and the fullness and the movement of my breath. In. Out. In Out.
I think of the many times it hurt to bleed and how I felt the pain right here. I think of how my daughter was conceived here and how I nourished her here for 9 months before she made her way into the world. I think of how my pregnancy was a re-awakening of sorts to this place I had totally ignored my entire life, a place I am finally learning to come home to as a woman and a mama.
This place that I discover to be the seat of my Power, the home of my Cravings and the dwelling of the Divine.
As I think of this season, I can’t help but think of our obsession with Light. I love light too. I worship the Sun and all His Radiance. I am more than happy to soak every bit of sunshine into my life whenever I can. Yes, this season is about the Seed of LIght, the Babe in the Manger who reminds us that in the darkest of night, there is always always always a flicker of Hope.
But let’s dare not forget the darkest recesses of the womb that made it all possible.
It is in the dark that we conceive Life. No Birth without the labor. No renewal without the blood.
This is part of our essence as women. Part of the power we bring into this world. This is the part of us that is most feared by those who don’t understand.
So I invite you this Christmas to get to know your womb space, your dark place, your deep cravings, your hidden power.
Know that your capacity to create, to bring forth Life, and to express the Divine resides here.
PS Here is an old talk by Dr. Christianne Northrup about women’s power that I thoroughly love. Enjoy.
PPS I am starting two new things in January. 1. I am starting a new Nia class at the Center Studio and 2. I am launching the Sh/Ft program this January .
